Centre for Language and Pre-University Academic Development AbstractThe Internet has made it possible for institutions to provide online courses. Such facilities give more students a chance to follow courses that are provided by the institution. This study looks at one such course, which is offered by the Language Centre of a university in Malaysia. The English Academic Writing course is offered in both online and offline modes at the Centre. At the end of the semester a questionnaire survey was carried out to see whether there were any significant differences between the performance of the online and offline students. It was found that there was a significant difference between the two groups of students. Students from the conventional classes were found to do better than the online students in their final semester exam. There was, however, no significant difference between the two groups when their project papers were analysed. As a result of this study, the Centre has decided to use both online and offline modes on all the students who registered to do English for Academic Writing. | Item Type: | Journal |
