Abstract

With the advance of technology, Computer Assisted Language Learning (CALL) will soon be an indispensable and inevitable part of the language teaching and learning as this technology changes the way lecturers think and teach. Integrating CALL into a language classroom is not merely setting up the physical infrastructure, but to do so in a more meaningful and effective way by the lecturers. For them, the task of preparing students who are going to survive in the new millennium that demands computer iterary and life long learning skills could be challenging and daunting particularly when they have to overcome their fears in integrating CALL in their lessons. This paper addresses the issue by drawing results from a case study in a private university. Using qualitative approach, data consist of in-depth interviews with several lecturers teaching academic writing to degree students using online onsite method. The emerging themes from the field transcriptions reveal more than their general perception on the usage of CALL and their general attitude of how CALL should be implemented but there are some key issues to be addressed by the administrators to ensure its success. This paper proposes several strategies in dealing with the lecturers’ fear and concerns from the case study.
