Abstract

Via years of experience putting a wide variety of educational technology hardware and software to efficacious use in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL), Business EnglishTeaching (BET) and Business/ Technology Teaching In English (BTTIE) classes of Asian students,a list of “top ten tools” has been specified by one humble teacher, in order of rated effectiveness for past/present/future applications: The “Basic Five” Office programs (Word, FrontPage, PowerPoint, Access and Excel)
The Internet in general (especially FrontPage and including virtual reality environments, beyond themscope here)
Other Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) programs such as Inspiration, PhotoShop, PersonalBrain, etc. Audio and/or video Podcasting and screencasting Skype and other instant messenging Blogs and wikis Extensible Markup Language (XML) and Real Simple Syndication (RSS)Content or Learning Management Systems (CMS/LMS) COTS language-teaching-specific programs
