Abstract

Among the technological processes turning process is one of the vital and widely used processes. Efficiency of the process depends on the selection of the cutting conditions. Now-a-days, single criteria optimization is used for the purpose. But intensive development of computing technique has open up the possibility for the multi-criteria optimization. Objective of this article is to develop a procedure to select the optimal cutting conditions for a turning process using multi-criteria and multi-parametric optimization technique. Here surface roughness, accuracy, productivity and cost of productions are taken as criteria for optimization. On the other hand, depth of cut, feed rate and cutting speed are taken as parameters of optimization. Out of the methods of optimization Complex Criteria Method are used. Software is developed for the optimization process. The effects of different given criteria on the optimal parameters of the cutting conditions were studied using the designed software. Result shows that multi-criteria optimization gives better combination of the surface quality, which gives maximum benefit in the exploiting properties of the machine elements.
