Abstract

This article discusses the development of a Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) Based Students’ Information System (WAP SIS) for the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology (FCSIT) at Universiti Malaya, Malaysia. The primary objective of the WAP SIS project is to develop an information system to facilitate students to navigate information via WAP enabled handheld devices regardless of the geographical location and time. With the WAP SIS, the FCSIT students are able to retrieve information pertaining to their personal information, examination results, course information and announcements and at the same time, perform course registration at their convenience. The system is integrated with relevant management capabilities by the special administrative features built into it. The challenges and constraints in undertaking this endeavour are discussed and highlighted
