Abstract

Based on discourses, debates and related studies regarding S & T among Muslims, we categorize it into four problematic issues: i) the philosophy and direction of S & T, ii) the education vis-a-vis training and learning of S & T, iii) the system and practice of S & T, and iv) the public awareness of S&T. We briefly describe the issues and then put forward a thesis that there are Islamic solutions to the issues with a particular reference to Malaysia. A conceptual framework of Islamic solutions is then proposed. However, materializing the Islamic solutions is not linear as the conceptual framework is complex involving many parties including the public at the grass-root level. Such being the case, it concerns the problem of inducing changes in perception, values and attitude regarding S & T within the socio-cultural system of the Muslim ummaht. We end our discussion on implications of our proposals.
