ISSN KKDN No. 0005959 • PP7051/4/2008 AffiliationsUniversiti Pertanian Malaysia AbstractThe author discusses the social contract, the language and education system, the religion and culture, and the freedom of speech in Malaysia.With respect to the social contract issue, the author describes the contract and criticizes those who are questioning the contract and those who act like Pak Kadok who are increasing in numbers. In the language issue, the author presents a brief history of the Malaysian education system since independence and how the earlier Malays fought for uplifting the status of the language and comparing with the present generation in which he describes as deplorable. He then discusses the effect of the implementation of the wrong policy of teaching of Science and Mathematics in English. The discussion is based on recent research data which gives a gloomy future for the Malays in various fields which include their language, the Malay newspapers, their party (UMNO), and their survival as a whole. With respect to religion and culture, the author raises the ever increasing level of corruption, partisan religiousity, disintegration of academic and religious knowledge, hedonism, the erosion of the national culture, deviant Islamic teachings which includes Islamic liberalism (liberal Islam), and the immergence of many conspiracies. Each of these issues is elaborated and the author suggests that it is a responsibility of the government for eradicating of these evils more creatively and effectively than ever before. In the issue of freedom of speech, the author raises the problem of over-controlling of the mass media, the presence of various acts of curtailing the public and individual freedom of expressing opinion, and the increasing level of individualistic members of our society. The author believes that all of these issues must be addressed accordingly for the the good of our future country.
Perkara yang diperkatakan ialah kontrak sosial bahasa dalam system pendidikan, agama dan budaya dan kebebasan bersuara. Dalam isu kontrak sosial pengarang menghuraikan maksudnya dan mengkritik mereka yang mempersoalkan kontrak ini dan mereka yang bersikap seperti Pak Kaduk yang semakin berkembang bilangannya. Dalam isu bahasa, pengarang mengimbau sejarahnya dan membandingkan dengan keadaan sekarang yang cukup menyedihkannya. Perbincangan tentang kesan dasar pengajaran sains dan matematik dalam Bahasa Inggeris diperkatakan dengan panjang lebarnya di sokong dengan data-data penyelidikan yang baru dan patut menginsafkan. Akibat daripada dasar yang dianggap salah ini kepada bahasa, bangsa Melayu, media massa berbahasa Melayu dan politik UMNO digambarkan akan mengharungi kegelapannya. Isu agama dan budaya yang ditimbulkan ialah amalan rasuah, perselisihan agama kepartian, pendidikan bersepadu, hedonisme, kebudayaan kebangsaan, fitnah-menfitnah dsbnya, dan ajaran sesat. Setiap satunya di kupas dan dipertanggungjawabkan kepada pemerintah supaya lebih prihatin dan mengambil langkah membendungnya dengan berkesannya. Dalam kebebasan bersuara pula pengarang menimbul persoalan kawalan media massa, akta yang menyekat kebebasan bersuara dan sikap individu yang sudah tidak menghiraukan apa pun yang tidak menyentuh peribadinya yang semuanya tidak melahirkan manusia kritis lagi yang akhirnya merugikan negara juga.
