Abstract

We have screened for 3435C>T polymorphism in exon 26 of the highly expressed, multi drug resistance gene, MDR1, in 101 Malay patients with leukemia using denaturing high performance liquid chromatography (dHPLC). The frequencies for the homozygous wild type, heterozygous mutation and homozygous mutation were 33.7%, 50.5% and 15.8%, respectively. The difference between the types of leukemia and sex of patients for the distribution of 3435C>T polymorphism was statistically not significant. The technique was able to confirm the presence of known 3435C>T polymorphism in exon 26 in all patients.
