Abstract

Transmission system congestion in a competitive electricity market refers to the overloading of lines or transformers due to market settlement. The chances of congestion in the deregulated market are quite high as compared to the monopolistic market, as the customers would like to purchase electricity from cheapest available sources. The congestion is undesirable in the system and should be alleviated for the secure operation of the system. The preferred schedules of generations of corresponding Scheduling Coordinators (SC) are obtained in Combined Economic Emission Dispatch (CEED) environment. In this paper, an Evolutionary Programming (EP) algorithm is proposed to reschedule the generations of SCs according to incremental and decremental bids to relieve the congestion. The proposed algorithm is demonstrated on IEEE-30 bus and Indian utility-62 bus systems with bilateral and multilateral transactions.
