Abstract

The decay $M_1$ $\rightarrow$ $M_1 \bar{\ell} \bar{\ell}$ is treated here as the decay of quark $q_1$ in $M_1$ into quark $q_2$ in $M_2$. A simple model is formulated to describe the initial and final quarks as described in terms of their respective effective masses, which takes into account all the QCD effects. The effective masses are obtained by fitting our model to charged weak decays of mesons. Using the effective masses so obtained, we apply our calculation to the flavour-changing decays of charged K and B mesons of the type above. Reasonable estimates for the branching ratios of such decays are obtained.
