Abstract

The growth of the Internet has given the possibility of providing both formal and alternative education opportunities. As a result more educators find themselves engage with this new approach especially for elearning.
The fundamental problem that motivated this study is to investigate student interaction focusing on the role of interactivity through interactive animation. Our intention is to examine how interactive online animations influence the process of teaching and learning of the technical and mechanical subject. We present the result of the design, development, testing and evaluation of Engine project. E-Engine is a webbased learning systems aimed to help students to improve their understanding towards the mechanical process of engine systems based on Kemahiran Hidup Form 3 syllabus. A set of exploratory study was carried out with 10 teachers and 60 students from three Secondary Schools in Sabah. 10 students from Universiti Malaysia Sarawak were also involved. They are required to complete the testing of Engine site. The results and the statistical data of project testing and evaluation are presented. We found that Engine has successfully supplement students to learn and understand the mechanical process of engine system concepts. Results of this research are expected to improve interactivity in teaching mechanical subjects through interactive animation.
