Abstract

We examine theoretically the small disturbance stability of free-convective flow between two parallel vertical walls at non-uniform temperature. The spectral collocation method with expansions in Chebyshev polynomials is used to solve the resulting fourth order Off-Sommerfeld equation. Numerical results are presented graphically on the curves showing the marginal stability, phase speed and the growth rate of the most unstable normal mode. It is found that an increase in Grashof number is destabilizing. We employed MATLAB in all our numerical computations to find the eigenvalues.
