Abstract

The article discusses the challenges faced by Malay language and literature teachers in the era of globalization as Malaysia progresses towards achieving developed nation status in 2020. Numerous challenges need to be faced by Malay language teachers especially to meet the demands of the new era. Issues such as standard in the teaching of the language, the use of new technology, and the need for new skills in the real world are discussed. Several suggestions are given to be viewed as references for the Malay language and literature teachers to plan and implement the curriculum in the classroom.
