Abstract

All marriages are subject to continuous challenges due to differences in values, feeling, lifestyle and attitude between the couple. If these differences are not dealt with properly, tension will build up causing stress that jeopardizes the marital relationship. This paper discusses conflicts which happen frequently in marriages. It also explores the contributory factors to the conflicts. Any conflict which is not handled well will bring adverse effects on one's marriage. If not resolved, the marriage may eventually end in divorce. The prevalence of marital conflicts creates a need for marital and family counseling services. The relevant counseling approaches, techniques and skills are presented in this paper. It also elaborates on the concept of marriage and family.
