Abstract

Ramai orang boleh membaca tetapi tidak semua pembaca dapat memahami dan menghayati apa yang dibaca. Fenomena ini telah menjadi satu masalah khususnya dalam pembelajaran yang memerlukan penafsiran secara akademik. Artikel ini memberi fokus terhadap pembacaan teks Bahasa Inggeris sebagai Bahasa Kedua dalam proses pembelajaran di mana para pembaca yang terlibat seringkali berhadapan dengan masalah menafsir isi teks dengan bermakna. Implikasinya, guru-guru disarankan menggunakan beberapa strategi yang efektif untuk membantu pembaca memahami serta mengeksploitasi topik-topik yang ada kaitannya dengan kehidupan seharian pelajar. Antara strategi-strategi yang disyorkan ialah pengajaran secara konstruktivist; pembelajaran penyelesaian masalah; berdasarkan kepada kepelbagaian kecerdasan; dan berfikir secara aktif merujuk kepada konteks sosial.
