Abstract

This paper provides an overview and points of reference for persons who are developing, designing, or delivering digital library products and services to students and others who are involved in the education of young people. It presents a preliminary work in the development and implementation of a Collaborative Resource Development digital library for Malaysian historical resources by collaborating partners. The collaborative environment would provide the platform for the educational community to participate in e-publishing of resources that can be shared by others. In this paper, we identify some of the reasons why a digital library for school projects, built in a collaborative basis, is needed in education at the K-12 grade levels. We identify considerations for the design, development and operation of a collaborative digital library from the standpoint of people in K-12 education and the contexts in which they will use the system. Some preliminary research findings regarding users of the collaborative digital library and types of learning approach involving digital library use are identified.
