This article calls for national concern for the underachieving students in schools. These students have negative feelings about themselves and low self-esteem. However, they still have the desire for success although they may lack knowledge to overcome their situation. Positive changes are more likely if parents and teachers are able to develop effective interaction and active involvement in the students' academic performance. This type of partnership is crucial fOr developing ways to enhance the students' academic achievement and self-esteem.
