Abstract

This article will discuss instructional effectiveness based on the Slavin Model (1987, 1994). According to Slavin, four factors contribute to instructional effectiveness: quality of instruction, appropriate level of instruction, incentive, and time. This research was carried out in four secondary schools in Federal Territory and Selangor. The sample comprised 208 Form Four students. The results of the study showed that most of the teachers prepared lesson plans before teaching, verified facts taught, monitored student progress, ensured students mastered the basic skills and concepts and that the syllabus was covered before year end. The results also showed no significant difference in perception between the male and female students toward the teachers whose teaching was systematic, clear and easy to understand.
