Abstract

Membaca teks akademik di dalam Bahasa Inggeris merupakan masalah yang besar di kalangan pelajar Melayu yang menuntut di luar negara. Walau bagaimanapun, tidak terdapat kajian yang lebih spesifik dan mendalam tentang masalah ini. Artikel ini membincangkan hasil kajian yang dijalankan terhadap enam pelajar Melayu di University of Wollongong, Australia tentang masalah-masalah yang mereka hadapi dalam membaca bahan-bahan akademik dalam Bahasa Inggeris. Artikel ini juga membincangkan dilema yang mereka hadapi apabila terdapat nilai dan amalan membaca serta pembelajaran di Malaysia yang tidak selari dengan kehendak pengajian di luar negara.
