Abstract

The purpose of this research is to study to what extent teachers incorporate science process skills in the investigative activities during the teaching of investigative skills. Six basic science process skills were observed in this study: observation, classification, taking measurements and using numbers, communication, making inferences, and predicting. The subjects selected for this study were three teachers from the same school who each taught Year One, Year Two, and Year Three at the primary level. Data collection for this study was by observation, interview, and evidence of documents. The data collected were analyzed and compared to obtain the conclusions. The findings of this study were that teachers used science process skills of observation and classification most as compared to other science process skills. According to the teachers, the use of science process skills will help the pupils carry out the investigative activities and understand the lesson better. These science process skills can also further enhance the pupils involvement in investigative activities, curiosity and higher level thinking.
