Abstract

As approaching the year 2020, Malaysia will achieve a level of developed nation based on the understanding of self-esteem and self-efficacy in moulding their identity. Therefore, the development of human resource in this country will be developed in every aspect that is physically, emotionally, spiritually, and mentally as integrated in the National Education Philosophy which has outlined a standard for human resource in Malaysia. According to the standard, the human resources not only demanded to be knowledgeable, skilled, creative, critical, rational and analytical, but they are also required to have the accountability towards society's prosperity and country. The standards are a tool in building a distinguish identity of the direction of the development of human resources in this country compared to other developing country. The vision and mission is to produce Malaysian citizens according to the standards that have been executed intensively by educational institution in Malaysia. In school, History, Islamic Studies and Moral Education are the obligatory subjects, while in higher education level, subjects such as Malaysian Nationality and Politics, Malaysian Citizens, Islamic and Southeast Asia Civilization and Malaysian Nationality are among the compulsory subjects to be learnt by undergraduates both in public or private university. The utmost reason why the subjects are made as compulsory subjects is because they expose students to the history of the existence and development of the nation, Malaysian society and the formation of human civilization. It is believed that through education, the final products of the 'multipurpose knowledge factory ' does not become a 'robot' in engineering, medical or accounting field, however is an expert on differences in human behavior who are more compassion and empathy as a patriotic Malaysian.
