To hire a manuscript cos 10 cent per day to replace a lost manuscript cost twenty rupiah. Kratz derives this information from two manuscripts owned by two brothers from ampung 7 Ulu Palembang. The University of Malaya Library holds a copy of the Syair Hasan Masri, which was printed at Kampung 13 Ulu Palembang, which conveys similar information. The Syair Hasan Masri consist of 532 pages of letterpress jawi script, 20 lines per page, published in 4 volumes between 15 February 1905 and 24 June 1905. The printing was done on a press owned by Sayyid Hamid bin Hussein al-Habsyi by Sayyid Abdulrahman bin Hamid Al-Habsyi. In the 1920s the manuscript library was closed due to shortage of borrowers.
