Abstract

The aims of this study was to look at the social behaviour of psychiatric patientswho attended the Day Care Centre in UMMC. Methods: Patients who attendedand were discharged within one-year period of study were included. They wereassessed on socio demographic profiles, psychiatric diagnoses and ratedaccording to the Social Behaviour Schedule (SBS) scale during admission andon discharged day. The SBS scores of the two assessments were compared.Results: There was significant improvement in the social behaviour ofpsychiatric patients attending the day care centre. Schizophrenics and patientswith major depression particularly showed statistical significant improvement.Conclusion: Psychiatrists are encouraged to refer patients to day care centrefor psychosocial rehabilitation help to improve their social behaviour.
