AbstractConsumers who commute to work are faced with a variety of transport mode choices. As the nation's road network becomes ever more congested, especially in the major cities, there is an increasing realization that alternative transport modes ought to be introduced or upgraded to shift commuters away from the road. A successful mode-switching program, however, requires a good understanding of how consumers choose among alternative modes of transportation. Like all consumer purchases, travel decisions are influenced by many and often interrelated factors. An attractive travel mode option with important urban transport policy implications is the use of commuter trains for daily commuting to and from work by sub urban residence. This paper attempts to determine those factors that significantly affect the propensity of consumers to choose commuter train service as a mode of transportation. The study is based on user as well as non-users stated preference survey. Repository Staff Only: item control page
