Abstract

Muzik Indonesia telah mendapat perhatian cukup meluas daripada para peneliti kebudayaan Indonesia. Publikasi ilmiah tentang muzik dan negara yang terdiri dari ratusan puak (etnis) ini — sama ada genre tradisional ataupun moden/popular, muzik nasional mahupun muzik daerah — sudah banyak. Studi-studi itu yang berangkat daripada pelbagai perspektif teori dan metodologi, telah memfokuskan perhatian pada pelbagai aspek muzik Indonesia: ada kajian yang memberi tekanan pada aspek kulturalnya, estetis dan puitis, ekonomis, dan juga representasinya dalam media audiovisual (gramoton, kaset, CD, VCD, filem, dan televisyen). Dalam dua dekad kebelakangan ini, peneliti tampaknya juga makin tertarik pada aspek politik muzik Indonesia yang sering dihubungkaitkan dengan fenomena globalisasi kebudayaan, politik, mahupun ekonomi. Sebagai contoh, lihat misalnya studi mutakhir daripada Jeremy Wayne Wallach, Modrrn Noise and Ethnic Accents: Indonesian Popular Music in the Era of Reformasi (2002).
