First, it elaborates the concept and theories of subjective well being, and discusses factors that lead to women?s well being at each developmental level. Then it defines health and mental health, and explains why women?s well being becomes the issue of interest. A brief account on the prevalence of mental and psychological illness on women is then illustrated, followed by some plausible explanations of their root causes. The guidelines and suggestions how women?s well being in general, and mental health in particular, can be protected and enhanced is discussed. It is found that the most effective tool for protecting and maintaining women?s mental health is through developing and energizing women?s own inner selves.
