Bioinformatic analysis revealed a potentially important tripeptide region in the α-subunits cytosolic domain. Mutation of hGM-CSF receptor α-subunit (hGM-CSFRα) involving the respective tripeptides altered the receptor function compared to the wild type receptor. The mutated hGM-CSFRα clonal cells signaled for self-renewal whilst the wild type receptor produce cell differentiations in the presence of hGM-CSF cytokines. These results showed that cytosolic region of the α-subunit was critically important for developmental decision in multipotent cell, indicating that signaling specificity for cell fate resides in the receptor’s structure.</mods:abstract><mods:classification authority="lcc">Q Science, Computer Science</mods:classification><mods:classification authority="lcc">R Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Nursing</mods:classification><mods:originInfo><mods:dateIssued encoding="iso8061">2005</mods:dateIssued></mods:originInfo><mods:originInfo><mods:publisher>Malaysian Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology</mods:publisher></mods:originInfo><mods:genre>Journal</mods:genre></mods:mods>
