Initially the courses on offer cover literary themes such as prose genre, authors, literary theory and criticism, comparative and creative writing. The major part of the programme are Malay language and classical Malay literature. The fomer Depatment of Malay Letters was expanded to become the School of Malay Language, Literature and Culture.
