Playing a peripheral role has relegated librarians to being second class citizens in their own organisations. Against such odds, librarians need to cope with the changes and challenges in the form of ICT, globalisation, lifelong education, knowledge management, etc. Library managers need to devise strategies that would provide libraries with the competitive edge in the information delivery business despite the competition posed by computer and knowledge management companies and other professionals. Library managers must be held accountable for the non-performance of their libraries. date: 2004-06 date_type: published publication: Kekal Abadi volume: 23 number: 1 publisher: Library, University of Malaya pagerange: 1-14 refereed: FALSE issn: 01272578 referencetext: Brophy, P.
